Update ontologies

Logged in administrators of semantic artefacts can access the summary page in the menu area to find the following options:

  • Edit settings;
  • Add submission;
  • Edit submission.

Edit settings

From this section, located at the top right corner, the ontology administrators can change the settings of a ontology (e.g., name, administrators, viewing restrictions, categories, etc.). It is not possible to change the ontology acronym because OntoPortal uses this field as a primary key and identifier. Add submission

From this section, located at the bottom left corner, the ontology manager(s) can upload a new version of the existing ontology and update the metadata using one of the following two options:

  • If in the original submission was set up an automatic update of the resource from a source URL, OntoPortal examines the content of this URL nightly, and re-submits the content if it has changed . If the updated submission does not parse, the ontology manager(s) will be notified via email;
  • If in the original submission was not set up an automatic update of the resource, or if the ontology manager(s) want to immediately update the ontology, they can upload the new version directly by selecting a local file. The upload process starts and the ontology will be parsed shortly thereafter. ontology manager(s) can at this point also change the settings and enable the automatic update of the resource. The ontology parsing is completed within an hour maximum with the exception of large ontologies, whereas ontology indexing and automatic mapping occur overnight (Pacific Time).

Edit submission

From this section, located at the bottom left corner, the ontology administrators can update the metadata of the latest submission by editing the information on the metadata form. ontology administrators can also replace the URL or the local file of the resource in case an error occurred during the original submission. Once the form is edited, click on the “Save Submission” button. If the “Location” settings are not changed, only the metadata changes will be saved.
